Comments: Resources for the Future (RFF) will award one research grant for the 2011-2012 academic year in honor of the late John V. Krutilla, a renowned environmental economist who served as a senior fellow at RFF for most of his career.The grant is intended for young scholars who have been awarded a doctoral degree in the past five years. The focus of the award is research related to environmental and resource economics. Special attention will be given to applications that seek to pursue research into one or more of the areaspioneered by John Krutilla. The award is open to young scholars who have received their doctoral degrees since June 30, 2006. One award for $5,500 will be made each year. It can be used for summer salary support, to pay for research assistance, or for any other legitimate research expenses.

White, retired chairman of the RFF Board of Directors, distinguished geographer, and statesman of science. The fellowships are intended for researchers who have a doctorate degree and wish to devote a year to scholarly work in areas related to natural resources, energy, or the environment. Social scientists as well as natural scientists interested in policy-relevant interdisciplinary research are encouraged to apply. Because fellows will interact closely with RFF researchers, selection criteria willinclude the nature of the applicant's proposed research program and how it fits with RFF work in progress. Fellows receive an annual stipend based upon their current salary and also receive research support, office facilities at RFF, and an allowance of up to $1,000 for moving or living expenses.
