Comments: The Center for Gender Studies (CGS) is pleased to announce the competition for residence at the Center for Gender Studies for the school term 2011-2012. Please note that this fellowship does not award a stipend, but it is less restrictive than one that does - this allows one to engage in other remunerative activity, including teaching on or off campus, or holding another award during the period.University of Chicago graduate students (at all levels) from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Residency at CGS during the main three academic quarters is essential. An office (central to campus) and Center privileges as active participants in the life of the Center. This recipient of the fellowship is expected to participate in and present at the Gender and Sexuality Studies Workshop. Awardees are expected to participate in other Gender Studies events such as brownbag lunches, various committees, etc. and to participate in them fully as an interlocutor.

Comments: The NORTH AMERICAN CONFERENCE ON BRITISH STUDIES DISSERTATION YEAR FELLOWSHIP is awarded to support dissertation research in the British Isles on any topic of British (including Scottish, Irish and Imperial) history or British Studies. The Fellowship consists of a $8,000 stipend. The runner-up will receive a $3,000 travel grant. Each advisor may nominate one candidate, who should be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada, enrolled in a Ph.D. program in a U.S. or Canadian institution, and who has, at the time of application, completed all degree requirements save the dissertation. Comments: The fellowships will be offered each year to support Ph.D. candidates who have completed their course work and have only their dissertation remaining. Applicants must have completed their course work within the last five years and provide evidence that they have been formally admitted to candidacy for a Ph.D. Selected fellows will be able to work on their doctorate 50 percent of the time, with the remainder devoted to policy-oriented research projects assigned by Hudson Institute in their general area of interest. Hudson will pay each fellow a $24,000 stipend for one 10-month academic year. It also will provide office space and limited administrative support.

These grants are for advanced students who have finished the research stage of their dissertation. Stipends range from $5,000 to $10,000.

Comments: The Lesbian and Gay Studies Project (LGSP) is pleased to announce the competition for the James C. Hormel Fellowship in Sexuality Studies for the 2011-2012 academic year. The fellowship competition is open to University of Chicago Ph.D. students who are writing dissertations in sexuality studies. Students in all disciplines are encouraged to apply. One or two fellowships will be awarded for the 2011-2012 academic year. The fellowship provides a stipend of $18,000 plus tuition, student fees, health insurance under the Basic Plan for the 2011-2012 academic year, and Hormel Fellows are also provided with shared office space at the Center for Gender Studies. For this year, there will be two fellowships awarded, and the fellows will participate in the Center's Sawyer Seminar, funded by a grant from the Mellon Foundation. University of Chicago Ph.D. candidates from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Residency at CGS during the main three academic quarters is essential. Some travel for research for brief periods is allowed, but this must be discussed with the Director in advance. Because the intent behind this fellowship is to allow the awardee to devote her/his full attention and effort to completion of the dissertation, the terms of this award do not allow one to engage in any remunerative activity or to hold any other award during the period. The fellowship provides a stipend of $18,000 plus tuition, student fees, health insurance under the Basic Plan for the 2011-2012 academic year, and fellows are also provided with shared office space at the Center for Gender Studies.

Comments: The Behavioral Sciences Student Fellowship stimulates individuals to pursue careers in epilepsy in either research or practice settings. Appropriate fields include sociology, social work, psychology, anthropology, nursing, economics, vocational rehabilitation, counseling, political science, and others relevant to epilepsy research or practice. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. ($3,000 stipend)

Comments: The CLAS Field Research Grant supports master's, doctoral, and professional school students conducting preliminary fieldwork in Latin America or Iberia, providing them with the opportunity to establish professional and institutional contacts, assess research sites, and refine their projects. Award recipients are selected from among all divisions and professional schools of the University of Chicago. Applicants must be graduate students from any academic department or professional school at the University of Chicago.Financial support may be used towards international airfare and in-country transportation and living expenses. Travel must be completed by December 1, 2011.

Comments: The Udall Foundation awards two one-year fellowships of up to $24,000 to doctoral candidates whose research concerns U.S. environmental public policy and/or environmental conflict resolution and who are entering their final year of writing the dissertation. Dissertation Fellowships are intended to cover both academic and living expenses from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012.

Comments: Since 1978, nearly 200 advanced graduate students from dozens of universities across North America and Europe have received dissertation fellowships from the McNeil Center. At least eight new fellows will be appointed for the 2011-2012 academic year, most with nine-month stipends of $20,000. Fellows receive office space in the Center's magnificent building on the University of Pennsylvania's campus and library, computer, and other privileges at the University. Limited travel funds for research are also available. While no teaching is required for most fellowships, all McNeil Center fellows are expected to be in residence in Philadelphia during the academic year and to participate regularly in the Center's program of seminars and other activities.

Comments: The Atlas Society (TAS) plans to provide one or more scholarships for graduate students for the 2011-2012 academic year. TAS will offer up to a maximum of $11,000 annually in living expenses and tuition and fees. Graduate scholarships support qualified students pursuing advanced degrees in philosophy and closely related fields,  including history, political theory, psychology, and cognitive science. The goal of this program is to aid students with long-term scholarly interests in Ayn Rand and Objectivism to complete their degree programs and begin taking part in teaching, researching, and writing on a professional basis.

Comments: Middle Tennessee State University announces the availability of the Underrepresented Minority Dissertation Fellowship Program. The purpose of the Underrepresented Minority Dissertation Fellowship Program is to enhance diversity in research, teaching, and service at MTSU through the recruitment of underrepresented minority graduate students from across the country who are completing dissertation research. Fellows will teach one course each semester in an area related to their academic preparation and a need of the department hosting the fellow. Fellows will be expected to devote significant time to the completion of the dissertation. Fellows will also work with a faculty mentor and will be involved with co-curricular activities including the university's cultural diversity initiatives. Fellows will receive fiiscal year faculty appointments (August 1 - July 31) and will be eligible for benefits including health insurance. Salary is $30,000. Fellows must be dissertation stage doctoral degree candidates studying in a field taught at MTSU.
