Scholars who have received their Ph.D. degree after June 2009 in any field of inquiry in the humanities or humanistic social sciences - broadly conceived - are invited to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship, made possible through a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to Wesleyan University. (Candidates do not need to have their PhD in hand at the time of application, but will need to have it by the time the Fellowship begins in June, 2012.) The purpose of this Fellowship is to provide scholars who have recently completed their Ph.D.'s with free time to further their own work in a cross-disciplinary setting, and to associate them with a distinguished faculty.
One Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow will be appointed to the Wesleyan University Center for the Humanities for the whole academic year, 2013-2014, and each Fellow will be awarded a stipend of $40,000. He or she will teach a one-semester undergraduate course; participate in the collegial life of the Center for the Humanities, which sponsors conferences, lectures, and colloquia; and give one public lecture. The Fellow will be provided with an office at the Center for the Humanities, and will be expected to work there on weekdays while the university is in session, and to reside in Middletown. The themes for 2012-2013 will be determined in early Fall 2012. Scholars whose interests bear upon one of these themes are encouraged to apply for the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Eligibility Requirements: Open to Mexican and UC Scholars who have received their PhD's within the last 2 years. Stipend $39,264-$49,884, depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits.
Program Description: Up to 18 fellowships support postdoctoral research which involves collaboration with a University of California, Mexican institution and/or scholars. Awards are tenable in the U.S. for Mexican postdoctoral scholars and in Mexico for UC postdoctoral scholars for a period of up to 12-months.

Length: 7-10 weeks
Comments: CLS is a program of the U.S. Department of State and provides fully funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students. Languages offered: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. While there is no service requirement attached to CLS Program awards, participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period and later apply their critical language skills in their professional careers.All CLS Program costs are covered.

Length: One Year, renewable up to three years total
Comment: Liebmann Fellowships are to be awarded to doctoral students at any stage of their programs who have outstanding undergraduate records, can demonstrate financial need, and are U.S. citizens. The fellowships cover the costs of tuition and will provide a stipend of $18,000, in order that the fellow may devote full time to his or her program of study. Awards are renewable and can fund students for a maximum of three years, although fellows must request renewal funds for each subsequent year. Awards will be announced in late spring.

PLEASE NOTE: You must apply for this fellowship through your department. Each department may nominate one student to the University's selection committee. The selection committee will select three nominations from the University to the Liebmann Fund. Instructions will be emailed through departments in late fall.
