Comments: Each year The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) awards two grants of $1,000 each to student memberss who are doing human sexuality research. The purpose of the research can be a master's thesis or doctoral dissertation, but this is not a requirement. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree-granting program and a member (student) of SSSS. Student research grant awards are funded by the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.

Comments: The library collection is particularly rich in the following areas: Catholic newspapers, history of midwestern Catholicism, Catholic literature, and history of Catholicism in the United States. Manuscripts of historical personages, records of twentieth century Catholic organizations, reports of European missionary societies, and much more material related to the American Catholic community are held in the archives.Grants of up to $2,000 help defray travel and lodging costs are made to scholars of any academic discipline who are engaged in projects which require substantial use of the collections of the library and the archives. Research projects must be related to the study of American Catholicism. Applicants should indicate as specifically as possible how the use of the Notre Dame library and archives are pertinent to this study.

The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Education Office of the Embassy of France in the United States. Every year, it allows 15 doctorate students enrolled in American universities- to conduct research in France for 9 months. This program has two main goals :

1. To allow American doctorate students to benefit from an experience in a French University. 2. To develop Franco-American academic partnerships.

Chateaubriand recipients receive about 1300€/month, a round trip ticket to France, health insurance, and about 30 days per diem for travelling in France for research purposes.

Comments:Scholars interested in STG can apply to conduct research in up to two countries for up to eight weeks. As part of the STG fellowship, participants are provided with visa assistance, international roundtrip transportation, a monthly allowance for housing and living expenses, and emergency evacuation insurance. STG applicants must have a graduate degree (PhD, MA, MD, MBA, MFA, MPA, MPH, MLIS, MS, JD) at the time of application and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Deadline: January 10, 2011 Length: up to 5 months Comments: The Arts|Science Initiative, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Research and for National Laboratories, is launching a pilot program of Arts|Science Graduate Collaboration Grants to encourage independent cross-disciplinary research between students in the arts and the sciences. Graduate students from areas such as art history, music, cinema and media studies, theater and performance, creative writing, or visual arts are encouraged to pair up with graduate students from astronomy and astrophysics, biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, geophysical sciences, math, physics, or statistics areas for joint creative projects. Each group may consists of two or more graduate students, with at least one in the arts and one from the sciences, who work together over the course of two quarters to investigate a subject from the perspectives offered by their disciplines. Projects will be conducted between January-May 2011, with a public presentation scheduled at the end of the academic year. The projects may take the form of a publishable paper, photographs, film, music score, performance, theater piece, or documented research experiment, etc. Proposals will be reviewed and selected in the fall quarter by a faculty jury comprised of members from the arts and the sciences. Projects may, but need not be, part of a larger MA/MFA or PhD or course research endeavor. Applicants must have an endorsement by a faculty member. The objective is to identify and encourage innovative interactions between students from sciences and the arts. The review process will be competitive and the proposals will be evaluated on the basis of a number of criteria, including cross-disciplinary innovation and scholarly risk-taking. Successful proposals may request up to $2,000 to cover costs for materials, use of media labs, computation facilities, and in some cases machine-shop time, as well as costs associated with the design, implementation, literary documentation, specific joint research travel, publication and/or presentation of the project. Comments: Fellows study at their universities during the academic year and conduct a research project under the supervision of an academic mentor and in consultation with ETS research scientists or psychometricians. Selected fellows are invited to participate in the ETS Summer Internship Program. Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program, have completed all required coursework, and be working on a dissertation related to statistics, psychometrics, educational measurement or quantitative methods.

Each fellow's university receives the following:

• $15,000 to pay a stipend to the fellow
• $7,500 to defray the fellow's tuition, fees and work-study program commitments
• A small grant for the purchase of equipment or software if needed to facilitate work on the fellow's research project (grant must be requested by the university)

Comments:The Leifur Eiríksson Foundation funds scholars from U.S. universities for graduate research or study at universities in Iceland, and scholars from universities in Iceland to conduct research or study at universities in the United States. Recipients are chosen by the Foundation's Board of Trustees. Up to $25,000 in project costs, including travel to and from the research or study site will be paid on the scholar's behalf.

While in Washington, NRI fellows are immersed in a rich public policy environment. Comments: IAF's Fellowships provide support for Ph.D. candidates to conduct dissertation research in Latin America and the Caribbean on topics related to grassroots development. Funding is for between four and 12 months. The Inter-American Foundation expects to award up to 15 Doctoral Field Research Fellowships in 2011.
