Christopher Hansen: November 2012 Archives
On November 28, Chicago Studies hosted its second Faculty Fireside Chat of the year featuring Stacy Lindau, MD, MAPP, an Associate Professor of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Medicine-Geriatrics. Dr. Lindau is the director of the South Side Health and Vitality Studies (SSHVS). SSHVS works to create and spread knowledge that people can use to produce and sustain excellent health and vitality. The Studies include the South Side Asset Census project, population-based research and effectiveness research on targeted interventions such as the Comer Children's Hospital Food Pantry and Food Security Project.
During the Fireside Chat, Dr. Lindau shared with UChicago students the two central questions that drive her research regarding urban health equity: "Is it fair?" and "Is it there?" These two questions have contributed to what Dr. Lindau referred to as an "asset-based approach" among community leaders and medical professionals to improve health and well-being on the South Side.
Dr. Lindau invited undergraduate students interested in science and community service to consider applying to MAPSCorps, an 8-week summer internship program organized by the University Community Service Center and the University of Chicago Medicine's Urban Health Initiative.
