Eligibility Requirements: Open to UC graduate students, in good standing, who will be advanced to candidacy by 12/31/2011. Expect to receive a PhD within 2 years. Applicants must obtain approval from faculty advisor, academic standing must be certified by the Graduate Division, and a signature is required from the Grants & Contracts Research Office. A copy of a letter invitation from the Mexican institution is required with the proposal. Stipend Grants of up to $12,000, for a period up to 2 years, are provided for

travel and research costs.

 

Program Description: For dissertation or MFA research which involves collaboration with a Mexican institution and/or scholars, or which addresses issues of importance to Mexico and/or the Mexican-origin population in California and/or the United States. Awards are tenable in the U.S. and Mexico.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must complete all requirements for the PhD, aside from the dissertation, by the start of the fellowship year. The fellow must remain in residence for the 9-month academic year, deliver one public lecture, and teach one seminar course. Program Description: One award offered for dissertation research on any topic within African and/or African Diaspora studies. Eligibility Requirements 
The program is designed for second and third year students who have not yet had their dissertation proposals approved by their thesis directors and their home institutions. Fellows are required to be present and participate in both workshops, the dates for which are announced before the opening of the annual application cycle. Stipend Fellows receive up to $5,000 for summer research plus travel, lodging and meals for workshops. 

Program Description 
The fellowship supports early-stage graduate students in the humanities and social sciences in formulating doctoral dissertation proposals during the summer. Fellows must attend two workshops, one in spring that helps prepare them to undertake predissertation research on their topics; and one in the early fall, designed to help them synthesize their summer research and to draft proposals for dissertation. Twelve fellows are selected for each of the five research fields.
