Comments: The Jennings Randolph (JR) Program for International Peace awards nonresidential Peace Scholar Dissertation Scholarships to students at U.S. universities who are writing doctoral dissertations on topics related to peace, conflict, and international security. Each year the program awards approximately ten Peace Scholar Fellowships of $20,000 each. Fellowships last for 10 months starting in September. Fellowships are open to citizens of any country. Dissertation projects in all disciplines are welcome.

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for one year of advanced level language study in East or Southeast Asia in approved language programs.

To be eligible for a Blakemore Freeman Fellowship, an applicant must:

  • Be pursuing an academic, professional or business career that involves the regular use of a modern East or Southeast Asian language

  • Have a college undergraduate degree

  • Be at or near an advanced level in the language as defined in the grant guidelines (Minimum requirement is 3 years of study of the language at college level or equivalent fluency)

  • Able to devote oneself exclusively to full-time language study during the term of the grant. Grants are not made for part-time study or research.

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States

Comments: The AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships are opportunities for professional development and public service. They are operated by AAAS as part of its mandate to "advance science and serve society." The aim is to foster scientifically informed, evidence-based policy and practice by involving scientists and engineers from a broad range of disciplines, backgrounds and career stages to engage their knowledge and analytical skills while learning first-hand about policymaking and implementation at the federal level; and to build leadership for a strong S&T enterprise that benefits all people. This is accomplished by developing the capacity of scientists and engineers to effectively inform individuals and institutions that influence and determine policies, regulations and funding. Stipend Approximately $74,000 to $97,000 (depending on years of

experience and previous salary).

Comments: Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing full-time study at Canadian or US colleges or universities. There are no restrictions as to field of study, but applicants must have attained at least sophomore standing (10 full-course credits for Canadians) at the time of application. As a rule, applicants must be citizens of Canada or the US. International students may be eligible to apply if they have been full-time students at an American or Canadian university for at least one year at the time of application. Applicants must have completed a minimum of four semesters of college German (or have obtained an equivalent level of language proficiency elsewhere) in order to be able to participate in group projects and follow lectures in German. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their academic record and statements of projected academic and professional future. Demonstrated interest in Germany and Europe and/or the need to learn the German language for professional or academic purposes will also be taken into consideration.

Scholarships are available for courses lasting a minimum of three weeks. The scholarship is approximately €850, which covers tuition, room and board in whole or in part. Accommodations are arranged by the host institution. In addition, DAAD will provide an international travel subsidy of €300-450. Scholarship recipients are expected to devote their full attention to the course and may not concurrently undertake individual research. A written report is requested within four weeks of the end of the course.

Comments: The Eurasia Program offers fellowship support that provides financial and academic support to graduate students in the early stages of dissertation development, and Ph.D. candidates near completion of their doctoral programs in social sciences and related humanities.  Pre-Dissertation Awards (PDAs) enable early stage graduate students to perform initial field assessments of up to 4 weeks for archival exploration, preliminary interviews, and other forms of feasibility studies.  Proposals should reflect a clear plan, require a budget of less than $3,000, and clearly articulate the policy relevance of the proposed subject. Dissertation Development Awards (DDAs) are intended to provide one year of support to enable the prompt completion of a PhD dissertation.  The competition is open to advanced graduate students who have completed their fieldwork. Stipend up to $20,000.  All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States as of December 1, 2012.

Getty Graduate Internships are offered in the four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust--the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Research Institute, the Getty Conservation Institute, and the Getty Foundation--to students who intend to pursue careers in fields related to the visual arts. Training and work experience are available in areas such as curatorial, education, conservation, research, information management, public programs, and grantmaking.  Approximately twenty graduate internship positions are funded each year.  Internships are open to students of all nationalities. Applicants must be:
Students currently enrolled in a graduate program leading to an advanced degree in a field relevant to the internship(s) for which they are applying, or
Individuals who have completed a relevant graduate degree on or after January 1, 2010 with postgraduate activities in their field, paid or unpaid.
Internships are located at the Getty Center in Los Angeles or the Getty Villa in Malibu. All positions are full-time beginning September 9, 2013 Most internships are for eight months, ending May 16, 2013 Conservation internships are twelve months, ending September 5, 2014 Grant amounts are $17,400 for eight months and $26,000 for twelve months. The grant includes health benefits, but housing and relocation funds are not provided.

The Fellowship is not restricted to dissertation work. Awards are based on merit only, and there are no restrictions regarding research area, age, or sex.Stipend of $20,000 for 12 months.
